Let us first understand the concept behind herbs.

Since time immemorial, herbs have been used extensively by our forefathers to cure all kinds of simple and complex diseases & ailments. To put it simply, herbs refer to those plants or plant extracts that possess special medicinal, nourishing and therapeutic properties which can cure common ailments and health problems. Herbs usually consist of leaves of plants, roots, stems, seeds and even flowers.

What are Ayurvedic Herbs?

According to the principles of Ayurveda, every human body is composed of a combination of three vital energies or doshas, namely – Vata (air & space), Pitta (fire
& air) and Kapha (water and earth). When all these 3 elements are in
perfect harmony with one another, a person experiences a state of good heath
and complete wellbeing. However, any imbalance caused to these three energies
results in ill health.

With the help of Ayurvedic Herbs and herbal remedies, practitioners of ayurveda can
heal the body, bring back its lost balance and propagate good health so that an individual can live a long, happy and fruitful life.

Common Medicinal Herbs

Let’s take a general view of some of the most commonly known Ayurvedic Herbs that
have been used for treating individuals for years now –

  • Aloe Vera refers to the gel which is extracted from
    the aloe leaf. It is supposed to have very good healing properties and is
    largely used for curing skin ailments such as rashes, infections and insect
    bites, etc.
  • Ashwagandha is used for the treatment of skin and eye
    problems, exhaustion, memory loss and breathing problems, etc.
  • Bringraj may be used for skin disorders, liver
    problems, balding and greying of hair, hepatitis, insomnia, headaches, etc.
  • Neem Leaf of the Neem Tree has antiseptic properties and is used for curing skin
    ailments such as eczema, rashes, psoriasis, etc. In addition, it may also be
    used to treat fevers, cough, sore throats, ulcers and burns, etc.
  • Tulsi The sacred Tulsi plant is considered to have many useful properties and is used for treating cough, cold and sinus, arthritis, diarrhoea, dysentery, etc.
  • Triphala compound may be used in the treatment of constipation, diarrhoea, diabetes etc.
  • Lavan Bhaskar Churna, Sitopladi Churna, and many others.

Herbal medicines are considered to be natural and safe for curing diseases. They are
supposed to strengthen immunity, improve digestion, provide nourishment and
even heal illnesses which are treated using strong chemical drugs.
